TORONTO, Oct 29, 2020 – Grasshopper Energy is pleased to announce the selection of H.E. Tudor Ulianovschi as the Champion Level Member Representative for the National Behind the Meter (BTM) Caucus Steering Committee of the Canadian Renewable Energy Association (CANREA). Tudor Ulianovschi is the Senior Vice President of Global Government Relations at Grasshopper Energy, a leading global sustainable energy company focusing on the development, acquisition, and long-term ownership of clean energy assets.
Prior to joining Grasshopper Energy, Mr. Ulianovschi had a long and distinguished diplomatic career spanning 15 years where he last served as Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Moldova. Throughout his diplomatic service, he was also posted in the United States, the Middle East, Europe, as well as Ambassador to the United Nations and the World Trade Organization. Mr. Ulianovschi holds an LLM from the Free International University of Moldova and is currently a PhD candidate.
Mr. Ulianovschi’s appointment to the BTM Caucus Steering Committee demonstrates the association’s wide reach as well as its mandate to engage policymakers and create conditions for innovation, growth, and prosperity in the Canadian renewable energy market. Mr. Ulianovschi is uniquely positioned to help guide those engagements through his proven track record in forging strong partnerships with elected officials, government agencies, and other relevant stakeholders around the globe. This will be key in driving Canada towards its objective of net-zero carbon emissions by 2050. His success in the international sphere will also help CANREA position Canada’s clean-energy sector as a global superpower in clean energy production as countries around the world increasingly transition towards decarbonized energy dependency.
Canada is undergoing a fundamental transition in how it generates, manages, and uses energy. This energy transition is moving us towards a future that will prioritize energy efficiency and rely much more heavily on decarbonized electricity, produced in an increasingly decentralized manner from a growing diversity of energy sources. CANREA’s vision is to ensure that wind energy, solar energy, and energy storage play a central role in this accelerating transformation of Canada’s energy mix, ensuring that the lowest cost of energy for Canadians is produced from clean energy.
“Wind and solar energy are already cost-competitive with conventional sources of electricity generation. In fact, wind energy is now Canada’s lowest-cost source of new generating capacity and has been the largest source of new capacity in Canada for a decade. Solar energy costs have fallen 90% in the last decade and continue to decline at a rapid rate.” says Tudor Ulianovschi. “These facts are just the tip of the iceberg when we talk about the potential of renewables in Canada, and I am excited to work with the great team at CANREA to realize every bit of that potential.”
Canada is fortunate to have massive untapped renewable energy resources, including wind and solar, and that means that Canada’s future decarbonized electricity grid can also be expanded significantly to substitute for the use of fossil fuels in transportation, buildings, and industrial processes like hydrogen production.
“Not only are Canadians overwhelmingly in favor of transitioning to clean energy but the abundance and cost-effectiveness of Canadian clean energy position Canada to make renewables the cheapest energy option for both consumer and business use”, said Mr. Ulianovschi. “This will be essential if Canada is to reach its objective of net-zero carbon emissions by 2050 and will be a core goal of CANREA as we work with our partners in government the energy sector, and with other key stakeholders across the country.”
About the Canadian Renewable Energy Association
The Canadian Renewable Energy Association was established on July 1, 2020 when the Canadian Wind Energy Association and the Canadian Solar Industries Association united to create one voice for wind energy, solar energy, and energy storage solutions that will power Canada’s energy future. Our vision is to ensure wind energy, solar energy, and energy storage play a central role in transforming Canada’s energy mix. We work to create the conditions for a modern energy system through stakeholder advocacy and public engagement. Our diverse members are uniquely positioned to deliver clean, low-cost, reliable, flexible, and scalable solutions for Canada’s energy needs.
- To advocate on behalf of the wind energy, solar energy, and energy storage industries to benefit Canada’s economy and energy future.
- To increase stakeholder understanding that renewable electricity and energy storage are clean, low-cost, reliable, flexible, and scalable solutions for Canada’s energy needs.
- To provide a forum devoted to dialogue, collaboration, stewardship, and growth of the industry.
